Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Private Limited (“BMCT”), a subsidiary of PSA International Pte Ltd, has sent appointment letters to 41 JNPT Projected Affected People (“PAP”). The appointments were following a rigorous process involving aptitude and psychological testing, a ‘fear of heights’ test and interviews, before the final verification of applicants’ PAP credentials by the Dy. Collector (Land Acquisitions) and subsequently Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (“JNPT”). From over 200 candidates provided by BMCT, 41 candidates were verified by JNPT as PAP on Friday 18 th August ; all 41 PAP have been sent offer letters by BMCT. BMCT will be recruiting more staff ahead of its startup at the end of 2017 both directly and through operating contractors, whilst more trainees will be recruited at the beginning of 2018.
The new hires will travel to PSA India’s operating terminals in Chennai and Tuticorin to receive intensive training on equipment operation and maintenance. On successful completion, they will return to Mumbai to play key roles in BMCT’s operations which will start at the end of 2017. The new equipment being delivered to BMCT is state of the art and able to handle some of the largest container vessels currently afloat; a single quay crane is over 120 metres tall and worth more than 50 crores.
A BMCT spokesman said, “We are looking forward to welcoming our new BMCT team members on board. We have been impressed by the quality and capabilities of the applicants. Our PSA India colleagues, with their many years of experience, will be giving them the very best training. We will continue to give provide opportunities to suitably qualified and available JNPT PAP.”
